Website Maintenance
What
is website maintenance?
Website maintenance includes revising, editing, adding new images, or any
of the many other changes to a website's original design in order to
keep your website up to date. The periodic addition of new web pages is
also part of maintenance services.
My
website is done, I don't need maintenance...
A website was never meant to be static. That's the beauty of having a
website—the latest information can be online and ready for your customers
to view at any time. If you never make any changes to your site, over time
it will stop attracting visitors. The main purpose of a website is to help
market your business... would you stop advertising altogether and expect
your business to grow? Just like any other part of your marketing plan,
your website must be updated from time to time and change as your business
changes and grows.
I
want to save money maintaining my
own website...
Over the short term you may save a little money, but we have often
found that unless the person doing those updates has been properly trained,
this is not as cost-effective if it's the only method
used. We recommend using Macromedia's Contribute for general updates on
your site, for changing text here and there and adding images as needed,
and we will design your site with this software in mind so that you can
do this effectively. But when it comes to larger changes it is usually
more cost-effective to have us help you--we will get it done faster, correctly,
and you will be set to go very quickly.
Why should I have Toner Design take care
of maintenance?
- We free you up to do what you do best—running your business—instead of spending numerous hours to learn how to make your own changes.
- Your maintenance is done in a timely manner by a professional designer who does this kind of work every day. You can be assured that the changes are done correctly, and we will correct any errors we may make at no cost to you.
- We can also help you review your site for search engine promotion strategies and submission to search engines as part of your maintenance to ensure both long-and short-term success of your Internet business.
Do you have maintenance packages?
If you plan on regular updates to your site on a monthly basis, it makes
sense to have a maintenance contract. Under our maintenance contract, you
are entitled to make an unlimited number of text revisions to existing
web pages. This includes redesigning web pages, or adding, deleting or
editing graphics on the web pages, adding new pages, and/or new programming.
Any changes you need on a website are covered by a package, up to a certain
number of hours per month (depending on the contract). Packages lower the
hourly rates you pay, and should you need more hours than are covered by
your contract, those additional hours will be billed at a lower hourly
rate than they would if you requested updates purely on an as-needed basis.
Any unused
hours per month in a package are non-refundable and cannot be accrued.
Redesign of a site is not included under maintenance. We reserve the right
to determine what is redesign and what is maintenance. Although we make
every effort to make accurate changes, it is the client's responsibility
to review updates and notify us of any necessary changes that need to be
made. We do not charge for changes that are our fault. However, if a change
needs to be made due to client error, the regular hourly update fees will
be charged. Updates should be provided in electronic form; any retyping or
scanning we must do adds to your costs.
Updates and maintenance done on an as-needed basis are charged a minimum 1/2
hour charge, and are done at our regular hourly rate.
